Can You Get NBA 2K26 for Free? Ways to Play Without Buying It

Does NBA 2K26 cost money?
It does. NBA 2K26 is the basketball sim built by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, released on 5 September 2025. Its modes include MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, The W and Play Now, and you can take friends or strangers on in its competitive online modes. We compare PC prices.
A site that hands out the PC version as a free download is distributing an unlicensed copy, and such files are a well-known route for malware. The safe options are authorized stores, Steam Families, or a promotion announced by the store itself.
Opinion on Steam is mixed. On 2 October 2026 its reviews read 64 % of 33,424 positive, and 11,100 players were online in it on Steam that day.

Steam’s store data listed NBA 2K26 for Family Sharing when we checked on 6 October 2026. It is part of Steam’s household system: if a family member owns the game, you can start it from the family library and keep your own saves and achievements, but the purchase belongs to them.
The catch is simultaneous play. A copy runs for one person at a time, so a borrowed copy cannot be online while the owner is using it. If two of you want to meet in an online PvP or co-op match, each needs a separate copy. Check that NBA 2K26 actually shows in your family library first.

Pick the right edition
Steam sells three versions: NBA 2K26, NBA 2K26 SLAM Edition and NBA 2K26 Superstar Edition. Check which one a key is for before comparing prices, because a cheap listing for the base game says nothing about the SLAM or Superstar price.
A yearly game that drops fast
