Can You Get Planet Coaster for Free? Cheaper Routes to Your Own Park

What kind of game is Planet Coaster, and is it free?
Planet Coaster is Frontier Developments’ coaster park simulation: you design rides, build up a theme park business and try to keep the crowds thrilled, then show the results to the world. It was released on 17 November 2016. It is not free; it is a paid game, and we compare its PC prices.
Skip the sites that advertise a free download of it. What they offer is an unlicensed copy, and files from such sites regularly carry malware. Authorized stores, Steam Families and promotions announced by a real store are the safe routes.
It still has a following years later: 91 % of 72,210 Steam reviews were positive on 2 October 2026, when 547 players were building in it at once. Its ESRB age rating is Everyone.
Can you build parks without buying it?
Playing on a relative’s Steam copy
On 6 October 2026, Steam marked Planet Coaster for Family Sharing. In a Steam Family, Steam’s household feature, a game one member owns appears in the family library for the others. Your parks, saves and achievements stay your own; the licence stays with the person who bought it. Two people cannot run that copy at the same moment, so a household shares it by taking turns at the park. Look in your family library to make sure it is offered before you count on it.
