Can You Get Detroit: Become Human for Free? Ways to Play Without Buying It
Detroit: Become Human is a paid game. Steam Families, store promotions, reward apps and its price history can cut what you spend; here is how each one works for a single-player story game.
Detroit: Become Human is a paid game. Because it is a single-player story, borrowing a relative's copy through Steam Families is a realistic option, and buying on a discount is the other. The card below leads to our price comparison, where some store links earn us a commission.
Is Detroit: Become Human free to play?
No. Detroit: Become Human is a paid game from Quantic Dream, which both developed and published it. It came out on 25 May 2018, and we compare its PC prices. Set in a near future where androids have outgrown their makers in intelligence, it puts the fate of people and machines in your hands, and the story splits in many directions depending on the decisions you take.
A “free download” link for Quantic Dream’s android drama is not a shortcut. Those sites pass around unlicensed copies, and pirated installers are a well-known way to spread malware. Get Connor, Kara and Markus from a licensed shop, through a household’s Steam Family, or via a giveaway the shop itself has announced.
The android story has kept its audience: by 2 October 2026, 96 % of 263,279 Steam reviews were thumbs-up, and 4,913 players were mid-story on that date. Its ESRB rating is Mature, so it is not aimed at children.
Spending little or nothing on Detroit
Taking turns on a relative’s Steam copy
Steam’s store data marked Detroit: Become Human for Family Sharing when Steam was checked on 6 October 2026. Steam Families ties a household’s accounts together, so a game bought on one account becomes playable on the others via the shared family library. The licence remains with the person who bought it, while your own playthrough, choices and achievements are saved separately. Only one account can run the copy at a time, which hardly matters for a story with no multiplayer: you play your chapters while the owner is away from the game. Before counting on this, find Detroit: Become Human in that family library.
Store giveaways
Games that a store is giving away to keep at this moment are collected on our free games page, listed while each offer is open.
Reward apps
Some apps pay points for playing mobile games or completing tasks, and let you exchange the points for gift cards that can be spent on games. Which apps and offers you get depends on your device and country; collecting enough can take days or weeks; there is no guaranteed amount; and each app sets its own age limits and payout rules. You still buy the game, with credit you earned. We have no commercial relationship with any reward app.
How deep do Detroit’s discounts go?
Paying full price is rarely necessary here. Some store we track had it below Steam’s list price in 12 of the last 12 months. The steepest monthly low was in December 2025, at 92 % below today’s Steam list price. Our Detroit: Become Human price history covers more than two years of monthly lows, so you can see how today’s best offer compares, and the calendar of Steam sale dates shows when the next Steam sale starts.

Has Quantic Dream made other games?
Yes. Steam lists Quantic Dream as developer and publisher of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls too, and each has its own price comparison.
