Which platforms can play Apex Legends together?

Apex Legends crossplay connects the currently supported PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions. PC players using the EA app or Steam can join friends on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, while PlayStation and Xbox players can also squad up without a PC player.

How cross-platform matchmaking works

Apex Legends keeps its normal console and PC matchmaking pools separate. PlayStation and Xbox players meet in the console pool, while PC players meet other PC players; if a console player joins a PC friend’s party, the entire squad moves into PC matches.

That rule lets friends play together without automatically placing every console-only squad against PC players. Cross-platform parties can also use the game’s voice chat, so a PlayStation, Xbox, and PC squad does not need to share the same system-level party service.

Turning crossplay off narrows matchmaking to players on the same platform who have also disabled it. Electronic Arts warns that this can produce very long queue times because cross-platform play is enabled by default for most players; PC players do not receive the same opt-out option described for non-PC platforms.

How to play with friends on another platform

Apex Legends handles cross-platform connections through its in-game Friends Menu rather than a PlayStation or Xbox friends list alone. As of 13 October 2026, use these steps:

1. Open the Friends Menu from the Apex Legends lobby.
2. Select Find Friend.
3. Search for the other player’s username.
4. Send the friend request and wait for the player to accept it in the lobby.
5. Select the accepted friend from the in-game list and send a party invitation.

A platform icon identifies friends using the same system, while a generic gamepad icon can represent someone on another console brand. If an Xbox player cannot receive cross-platform requests, check that cross-network play is enabled in the Xbox system settings as well as in Apex Legends.

A blocked request prevents further invitations from that player. The recipient can reverse that choice through the Find Friend interface before a new request is sent.

Does Apex Legends support cross-progression?

Yes, Apex Legends uses an EA Account for cross-progression across supported platforms. Unlocked Legends, most cosmetics, completed challenges, prize-track rewards, XP, Crafting Materials, Legend Tokens, and Heirloom Shards are associated with that account rather than remaining isolated on each connected platform.

Cross-progression does not combine every record. Statistics from secondary profiles do not merge into the primary profile, ranked leaderboards remain platform-specific, and some badges tied to statistics from a non-primary profile may not remain available after migration. PlayStation Plus items and Xbox-exclusive items also stay restricted to the platform where they were earned.

Apex Coins held on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox use one merged balance across those platforms. Historical Nintendo Switch coins remain a separate case in Electronic Arts’ cross-progression rules, but the Switch version itself was removed beginning 4 August 2026.

Cross-progression and crossplay solve different problems. Crossplay determines who can join a squad and which matchmaking pool that squad enters, while cross-progression determines which account unlocks and progression appear when the same player changes systems.
