God of War is a paid PC game on Steam. As a single-player adventure it suits Steam Families well, and when that is not available, timing your purchase is the way to spend less. The card below leads to our price comparison, where some store links earn us a commission.

Does God of War cost money on PC?

Yes, God of War is paid. Santa Monica Studio developed it, with Jetpack Interactive also credited on Steam, and PlayStation Publishing LLC publishes the PC version. The game was first released on 20 April 2018. Years after his war on the Greek gods, Kratos is living as a mortal in a land of Norse gods and monsters, where he has to survive and teach his son to do the same.

Whatever a “free download” site claims, it can only give you an unlicensed copy, and such downloads are one of the most common ways malware reaches a PC. Kratos belongs on your drive through a licensed retailer, a household Steam Family, or a promotion you can check at its source.

Kratos’s Norse chapter keeps strong reviews on Steam: 96 % of 185,012 were positive by 2 October 2026, a day on which 2,047 players had it running simultaneously.

Taking turns on a household copy

Steam’s store data on 6 October 2026 marked God of War for Family Sharing. Steam Families groups a household’s accounts so that a game bought by one member can be launched by the others through the family library. The buyer keeps the licence, and each player keeps their own saves and achievements. A single copy can only be in use by one person at once; for a single-player game like this one, that means taking turns rather than missing out. Confirm that Kratos actually shows up in the shared family library before you plan around it.

Store giveaways

Whatever stores are handing out for free at the moment is listed on our free games page, each game for as long as its offer lasts.

Reward apps

Some apps pay points for playing mobile games or completing tasks, and let you exchange the points for gift cards that can be spent on games. Which apps and offers you get depends on your device and country; collecting enough can take days or weeks; there is no guaranteed amount; and each app sets its own age limits and payout rules. You still buy the game, with credit you earned. We have no commercial relationship with any reward app.

How cheap God of War has been

Kratos goes on sale often. Our records cover more than two years, and the deepest monthly low in them was 70 % below today’s Steam list price, in March 2026. Across the stores we track, the game was sold below its list price in 12 of the last 12 months, so paying full price is rarely necessary. Each month’s low is in the price history, and our Steam sale dates show when the next major sale starts.

Comparing prices

From official shops to key sellers, each God of War listing we follow appears in the card with its present price; we compare PC prices. Steam sells a single edition, simply called God of War, so every key should be for the same game.

Is your PC ready for Kratos?

Storage is the main demand: 70 GB. Steam gives 8 GB of RAM for both minimum and recommended settings; the processor and graphics card lines are on the God of War system requirements page. Steam’s store page for the Norse saga, checked on 6 October 2026, showed full controller support plus 18 languages, 11 of which come with voice-over.
