No, It Takes Two is not fully cross-platform as of 14 October 2026. It supports online co-op within compatible platform families, including cross-generation play between PS4 and PS5 or between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but it does not connect PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo players to one another.

Which platforms can play It Takes Two together?

It Takes Two divides online co-op by platform ecosystem. The two confirmed cross-generation pairings are PS4 with PS5 and Xbox One with Xbox Series X|S; PC players remain in the PC ecosystem, while Nintendo Switch players need a partner using the Nintendo Switch version.

The practical rule is to match the platform family before starting a campaign. A PS5 owner can invite a PS4 partner, for example, but cannot use the same invitation to bring in someone on Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch.

Does Friend’s Pass support cross-platform play?

Friend’s Pass does not remove the platform boundaries. It allows a player who owns It Takes Two to host an online session for a friend who has downloaded the matching Friend’s Pass, but that invitation still follows the same cross-generation and platform-family rules.

On PlayStation, PS4 and PS5 can connect; on Xbox, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S can connect. A PlayStation host cannot invite an Xbox, PC, or Nintendo player, and the official Nintendo guidance requires both online partners to use the Nintendo Switch version.

Only the owner can host the full campaign through Friend’s Pass. If neither player owns the game, the official Friend’s Pass page says they can access the first chapter in local or online co-op, subject to the same compatibility limits. For a separate explanation of access and hosting, see how It Takes Two Friend’s Pass access works.

Can Steam and the EA app play together?

Yes, the Steam and EA app versions can play together on PC as of 14 October 2026. From the Steam version, the host can choose the EA Friends List in-game, add the other player’s EA Account, and send an invitation that appears while It Takes Two is running.

Steam-to-Steam invitations can instead use the Steam friends list. Online play through Steam still requires a linked EA Account to connect to EA servers, while local play and Steam Remote Play Together do not require that EA Account connection.

Does It Takes Two have cross-save or cross-progression?

It Takes Two does not provide universal cross-save or cross-progression across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo. The official Friend’s Pass information confirms a cross-generation save system, so supported progression can remain within the matching PlayStation or Xbox family rather than transferring to an unrelated ecosystem.

Friend’s Pass also preserves the invited player’s progress if that player later owns the full game. Saved sessions can unlock chapters up to the point already reached, allowing that player to continue from the saved session or select an earlier unlocked chapter.

PC saves have an additional storefront-specific limitation. The current Steam version uses Steam Cloud, and Electronic Arts states that saves formerly held in EA app Cloud are not accessible through that Steam Cloud change; this is separate from cross-platform progression and does not create save transfer between PC and consoles.

What do both players need for online co-op?

Both players must be online at the same time for an online It Takes Two session. The owner hosts from the main menu, while the invited player uses the compatible Friend’s Pass or owns the game on a supported version within the same ecosystem.

First-party platform accounts are required for Friend’s Pass. On Steam, an EA Account must be linked for EA-server online play, and cross-store PC invitations use the in-game EA Friends List rather than a console-style cross-platform system.

Can you play couch co-op without crossplay?

Yes, couch co-op works without an internet connection. It keeps both players on the same device, avoiding platform compatibility and online invitation restrictions entirely.

It Takes Two is designed around two-player cooperation rather than a single-player campaign, so local play still requires controls for both participants. Players looking for other co-op campaigns with different systems can compare the options in games like It Takes Two.
