Is GTA 5 Online Crossplay Across PC and Consoles?

Find out whether GTA 5 Online supports crossplay across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, plus how PC versions and profile migration work.

Is GTA 5 Online Crossplay Across PC and Consoles?

No, GTA 5 Online does not support crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox as of 14 October 2026. PC users can play across supported PC platforms, but console families and native console generations remain separated.

Does GTA 5 Online have crossplay in 2026?

GTA Online does not let a PC player enter the same session as someone playing on a console. Rockstar’s support guidance, updated on 15 April 2025 and checked on 14 October 2026, states that PC cross-network play applies only between PC platforms and explicitly excludes PC-to-console multiplayer.

PlayStation and Xbox players also cannot share GTA Online sessions across the two console families. The practical rule is that everyone in a group needs a compatible edition within the same platform environment rather than merely a linked Rockstar Games account.

Which GTA Online platforms can play together?

Which GTA Online platforms can play together?
Player combinationCan play together?Important condition
PC launcher to another PC launcherYesBoth players must use a compatible PC version
PC to PlayStationNoPC players cannot join console sessions
PC to Xbox consoleNoThe Xbox app on PC still belongs to the PC environment
PlayStation to XboxNoThe console families use separate multiplayer environments
PlayStation 4 edition to native PlayStation 5 editionNoThese editions use separate GTA Online environments
Xbox One edition to native Xbox Series XS editionNo

The Xbox app on PC can make the naming confusing. Despite the Xbox branding, Rockstar treats that release as a PC platform, so its cross-network setting connects it with other PC platforms rather than Xbox consoles.

Can PC players use different launchers together?

Yes, GTA Online supports multiplayer between supported PC platforms. Rockstar specifically lists Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, and the Xbox app on PC when explaining cross-network play, so launcher choice alone does not divide the PC player base.

The edition still matters on PC. Players need compatible versions of GTA Online, because launcher-level cross-network support does not make every PC edition interoperable automatically.

Can PS4 and PS5 players play GTA Online together?

A player using the native PlayStation 5 edition cannot join a GTA Online session running on the PlayStation 4 edition. To play with a PS4 group, the PS5 owner needs to run the PS4 edition through backward compatibility rather than the native PS5 edition.

That arrangement is cross-generation access through the older edition, not full crossplay. The PS5 player is effectively joining the PlayStation 4 multiplayer environment, so the group does not receive the native PS5 edition’s separate environment.

Can Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players play together?

The same edition rule applies to Xbox. A native Xbox Series X|S GTA Online player cannot join the Xbox One edition’s sessions, but a Series X|S owner can use the Xbox One edition to remain in that older multiplayer environment.

Using the older edition does not merge the two generations. It places the newer console in the Xbox One version’s player pool, while the native Xbox Series X|S edition remains separate.

Does profile migration enable crossplay?

No, profile migration moves eligible GTA Online progress but does not connect multiplayer pools. Rockstar’s support page, updated on 24 February 2026 and checked on 14 October 2026, says that a migrated profile remains on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, while progress made on the old and new console generations no longer synchronizes.

Migration also cannot move a profile between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S or from a console family to PC. A successful transfer therefore does not let friends on the original and destination platforms enter the same session, and later progress should be treated as separate.

What should a group do before switching platforms?

Every member should compare the exact platform and edition shown in the game library before migrating or installing another version. Matching only the console brand is not enough when one person launches the older edition and another uses the native current-generation release.

A group planning around GTA updates and new content should decide on one shared environment first: a compatible PC version, the PlayStation 4 edition, the native PlayStation 5 edition, the Xbox One edition, or the native Xbox Series X|S edition. Moving a profile may preserve eligible progress, but it does not remove the multiplayer boundaries between those environments.
