No, Overcooked! 2 is not fully cross-platform: as of 14 October 2026, its official crossplay support connects Windows players on Steam and Epic, not PC players with PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. The game still supports local and online play for up to four chefs, so everyone can cook together when their copies are compatible.

Which Overcooked! 2 platforms can play together?

The standalone Overcooked! 2 received a PC crossplay patch that allows Steam and Epic players to join one another through the Team17 friend invite system. Team17 describes that crossplay as PC-only and states that the Mac and Linux Steam versions are not supported by that patch.

How PC crossplay works

Windows players using the supported Steam and Epic versions must run compatible game builds, then use the Team17 friend invite system inside Overcooked! 2. This system handles invitations across those two PC platforms without opening the lobby to console players.

The crossplay patch does not make every computer version compatible. Team17’s official announcement specifically excludes the Mac and Linux Steam versions, so a mixed Windows and Mac or Linux group should not assume that sharing the same PC game title is enough.

Why console and PC friends cannot share a kitchen

Overcooked! 2 offers online multiplayer, but online multiplayer is not the same as universal crossplay. A PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch copy uses its own platform environment, while the game’s official crossplay patch is limited to supported PC versions.

That distinction matters before a group starts the Onion Kingdom campaign. Friends on incompatible hardware cannot solve the restriction through an in-game setting, a private lobby, or the Team17 invite overlay in the standalone game.

When Overcooked! All You Can Eat solves the problem

Overcooked! All You Can Eat is the appropriate edition for a group split across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Team17 documents online cross-platform multiplayer for the collection, which remasters content from Overcooked and Overcooked! 2 and supports up to four players.

Every participant must use All You Can Eat rather than expecting it to connect with a standalone Overcooked! 2 copy. Saves also remain locked to the platform on which they were created, so crossplay does not provide cross-progression when a player changes hardware.

What to check before starting a session

First, confirm the exact edition each person owns: Overcooked! 2 and Overcooked! All You Can Eat are separate games with different crossplay coverage. For standalone Overcooked! 2 on Windows, Steam and Epic players should update the game and invite one another through the Team17 friend system.

If everyone uses the same supported platform, Overcooked! 2 can host up to four players locally or online. A group spread across console families or between PC and console should use All You Can Eat, while a group sharing one screen can avoid cross-platform restrictions through local play.
